Introducing Drupal 9: Everything Marketers Need To Know

With the release of Drupal 9 earlier this month, our team was excited to learn more about what Drupal 9 can do, and what Drupal overall means for today’s marketer. Luckily for us, digital solution provider Acquia had just the webinar for us, “Introducing Drupal 9: Everything Marketers Need To Know“.

Here are three takeaways we got from the session and live panel.

Drupal is an open-source software used to build digital experiences and it’s big.

Drupal is used by 1 out of 30 websites today. That might not sound like a lot, but it equates to over 57 million websites, including websites such as Harvard University, Tesla, and Verizon Wireless!

The open-source community that drives Drupal is also big, with over 35,000 contributors keeping the software up to date through code fixes and updates, and nearly 1.5 million registered users on the platform.

Drupal is for enterprise level organizations

Drupal is built to be highly scalable, cost efficient, and has features out the wazoo! Drupal offers over 45,000 modules to the public and is incredibly customizable. Drupal also integrates extremely well with pre-existing systems, meaning that it can be paired with virtually any system.

Today, Drupal is being used for everything from creating company websites, to organizing and disseminating information for millions on public transit systems such as New York City’s MTA system, and even powering navigation applications for technology innovators such as Tesla.


Drupal 9 is built to be used as a marketer’s tool

There’s been a big focus on creating new features within Drupal 9 that would help to improve user experience for marketers (making for a much easier to navigate user interface), as well as building out more robust capabilities.

The three major marketing feature wins that our team found interesting were improved SEO power (by continuously optimizing HTML, Drupal helps contribute to improved SEO), multilingual advancements (including more robust capabilities like creating webpages that translate languages and layout – such as characters reading right to left – or even creating databases with “translation memories” that allow for highly performant language translations), and mediamanagement (including media libraries, layout builders, and a more seamless content admin experience). Leveraging these features makes interacting with Drupal on a daily basis much easier than before, and taking advantage of Drupal’s capabilities allows for more robust and powerful websites.
